Sedation for Nervous Patients in Hitchin

Bancroft Dentistry is an acknowledged provider of IV sedation for nervous patients – we have over 20 years’ experience in this safe technique.

As you may be aware from past experience, not every dental practice is equally adept at helping nervous patients to gain confidence. Here at Bancroft Dentistry, we treat all our patients – however nervous they may be – with the same understanding and respect.

We’re a friendly and welcoming practice where patients’ needs always come first, and we’re committed to the principle of painless dentistry.

But these aren’t the only reasons why nervous patients tend to recommend us. We offer practical help for people who have genuine fears about coming to the dentist, including those who may have put off important dental work for years due to anxiety or needle phobia.

IV Sedation for Nervous Patients

IV sedation – nothing to fear, not even fear itself.

At Bancroft Dentistry we’re convinced that no-one should have to worry about coming to the dentist. If you are nervous or anxious, intravenous (IV) sedation could be the answer you’ve been looking for.

IV sedation is an excellent way for people who find undergoing treatment difficult or are worried about the prospect of lengthier procedures.

Sedation is not a general anaesthetic, but induces a sleepy state of deep relaxation, bringing on a feeling of being pleasantly unperturbed by what’s going on. Patients often remember little about their treatment, as the sedation agent used also has a strong amnesiac effect.

It’s important to remember that you will need to be escorted home after treatment, and have a friend or family member around to keep an eye on you. But rest assured that, by the following day, you’ll be able to return to work as normal.

What You Should Know About IV Sedation

If you feel you could not have any dental treatment without a great deal of anxiety then dental sedation may be for you.

Sedation dentistry has been found to be a very safe and effective way of enabling patients from receiving important dental care without worrying about their phobia. It will help relax you so you can receive your dental care in comfort and without distress.

There are a few points you should bear in mind:

You’ll need to have someone with you to escort you home after treatment.

You should also remain in the company of friends or family for the rest of the day until the effects of the sedative have worn off.

You’ll be able to return to work as normal the next day.
