‘New Year, New You’ is the in mantra!

Have you made your resolutions for 2017?

January does seem as good a time as any for a fresh start, or maybe getting back into something with renewed vigour! The big question is: How long will these promises to ourselves last?!

Often the best way to achieve your goal is to break it down into a few smaller tasks.
So, for example, if your main target is to be healthier, one little thing that can make a great difference is to optimise your oral hygiene routine. You’d probably be surprised how much the health of your mouth is linked to your general health and well-being.

Now, it’s easy to preach on about all the dos and don’ts of what you should or shouldn’t be doing. However, that gets tedious and really isn’t very motivating! So instead here are a few ways to tweak your regime. Making it easier to keep on track without it seeming like too much of a chore…

Brushing in the morning

Obviously, the great majority of people do this already! What you might not have realised is that it is better to brush your teeth before you eat. Bacteria builds up on your teeth overnight and will enjoy feasting on your breakfast as their first meal of the day as well! Brushing first removes the bacteria and stops this from happening. If you still want to freshen up after you’ve eaten, a mouthwash can be an ideal solution. (No pun intended!)

Flossing daily

You don’t need to be sharpest tool in the kit to realise that a dentist talking about floss is likely to incite groans, or at least a few glazed expressions! Unfortunately, there really isn’t anything better than something that physically gets between your teeth to clean those hard to reach areas. The good news is that if you find flossing a fiddle, then there are great alternatives, such as TePes, which may suit you better. Also, try switching things up, start with flossing and then brush your teeth. Or maybe choose an alternative time of day which is more compatible with your lifestyle.

Hopefully, these couple of suggestions will help you on your way to a healthier, happier ‘new you’ for many months to come.
