Treatment inner thumb : Bancroft Dentistry

Losing a tooth isn’t ideal, but in some scenarios, it’s clinically necessary.

We’ll always explore every possibility to save your tooth, but when this isn’t possible, we can perform gentle extractions that alleviate your pain.

Do I need a tooth extraction?

You might need an extraction if you are suffering from:

  • Severe gum disease that has caused teeth to become loose within their sockets.
  • Severe cavities that can’t be addressed with root canal treatment.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth.
  • A broken tooth (you’ve sustained severe trauma to the face that has significantly cracked or broken your tooth and caused a dental infection).

Why Choose Us?

We understand the idea of a tooth extraction can be quite traumatic and upsetting for some patients. That’s why we’ll always take the time to explain the why and the how before going ahead with the procedure.

Many of our patients are often surprised at how straightforward having a tooth removed is today. The extraction techniques we use are designed to be minimally invasive and to minimise the possibility of post-treatment complications so that you can get on with living your life pain-free again right away.

FAQs

Is tooth removal painful?

It might sound disingenuous to tell you that getting a tooth removed isn’t the traumatic experience that it used to be two or three decades ago -but it’s true!

Especially as our dentists here at Bancroft Dentistry have a therapeutic approach to tooth extractions, making sure you’re comfortable and relaxed before any treatment goes ahead.

We’ll numb the treatment site, so you genuinely won’t feel any pain during the procedure.

If you’re particularly nervous, we can carry out IV sedation and put you “under”, though you will be fully conscious and able to communicate with your dentist.

This form of sedation feels a little like a ‘high’, causing anxiety and nerves to float away in seconds.

It’s a fantastic resource for helping patients put aside their nerves and to help them build confidence for dental procedures in the future too.

Do I need to get an extracted tooth replaced?

If you’ve had a wisdom tooth removed, this is due to crowding, so it doesn’t need to be replaced.

We strongly recommend having any other extracted teeth replaced with long-term solutions like dental implants. Among our implant surgeons is one of the most revered implant dentists in the UK, Dr Fahd.

For many years, Dr Fahd has been pioneering new implant techniques, including minimising healing times for patients and reducing surgical sites.

He is well-loved by patients, who are pleasantly surprised at how minimally invasive their implant surgery and healing time is under his care.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Dr Fahd is one of the best in his field – don’t take our word for it – read all about his experience here.

Do you offer wisdom tooth removal?

Yes.

We can carry out wisdom tooth extractions if your wisdom teeth are causing crowding in your mouth, or if you are repeatedly suffering from wisdom tooth infections.
