02 May Why Dental hygiene is more than just your teeth
Our mouth and teeth work really hard, so deserve looking after. A regular dental hygiene treatment helps prevent infection and decay in your mouth but it also has a benefit for the rest of your body’s health. One notable area that researchers are noticing is the link between gum inflammation and Alzheimer’s disease.
A 20 year review by New York University revealed that people at the age of 70 with gum disease had a lower cognitive function score. But before we all run to the bathroom to clean our teeth again, let it be noted that this was a very small sample size and there are many other factors to consider, but it’s interesting never the less.
